When was the last time you were in a Mother’s Day photo? Unfortunately, mom’s don’t exist in photos.
I come to you today, not only as a photographer, but also as a mom myself. We just aren’t in enough pictures. We have all the excuses to not be photographed. The biggest excuse I hear for a woman not being photographed, in general, is that they want to lose a few pounds. I’ve been there myself. Ok, I’m still there. Some others are they don’t have any cute outfits, need to get their hair done, or, how about we’re just too plain tired? Another big one is that we are usually the ones taking the photos.
I’m pretty sure that we all find our children much cuter than us. Several years ago, when I was majorCLICKS Photography, I started a blog series on “Being present in photos” and every week for a year, I did an activity with my children and photographed it. Sometimes with my big girl camera. Sometimes with my phone. Whatever was easiest. We flew a kite. We went for ice cream. We laughed. We probably argued because when my youngest was little, we argued A LOT!
But I wanted my daughters to have not only pictures with me, but memories. I wanted them to know that I loved them and have images to remember me by when I was gone some day. So I created moments to take those pictures. We've taken family pictures for our Christmas cards for as many years as I can remember. This was our 2023 family picture.
Will they remember that you worked a ton of hours? Will they remember that you traveled a lot for work? Will they remember that you were at their sporting events? We have no idea what our children will and will not remember, but having a photograph to help those memories flow back to life is a wonderful thing. You know that you’re present in their lives, but how great would it be to have a professional picture of you and your children to pass down through the generations.
So what if this Mother’s Day, you took time to have that special picture taken of you with your kiddos (and maybe even your hubby, lol)? What if you purposefully made time for them and yourself to have a memory captured?
Let me help you capture this special time in your life with a family session this Mother’s Day. You can check out my Family Gallery and then schedule your own session with AFH Media!
Such a great reminder to get in the photos. I am so guilty of not doing so and seeing these stunning images makes me regret that for sure
So much truth! I have really tried to make sure I get in the photos with my boys as much as possible, even if it is just a goofy selfie!
You're right, Jodi! As moms we're always behind the camera and rarely in the photos. A Mother's Day portrait session is the perfect gift!
